Forget Resolutions

Forget Resolutions.  Most of us fail to achieve our goals because we have too many of them. Every year we make a big list of all the stuff we want to change or do and we are instantly overwhelmed with all of our good intentions. The result is that we end up doing nothing.  So let’s stop the charade and do something different this year.

Instead of a laundry list of things, boil your list down to 1 thing you are going to stop doing, start doing, do more of or do less of in 2013.

Instead of the usual “lose 10 pounds”, stop drinking soda.

Instead of “feel more gratitude”; write a thank you note to someone once a week.

Instead of “exercise more”, walk to work, or commit to one exercise class a week, or  to doing a fun hike once a month.

One thing, and one thing only. Once a day, once a week or once a month. Nothing else.

What will be your one thing?

  1. Nice, simple piece Madeline.

It makes resolutions much more doable!

    Happy New Year!

  2. This is a hard one for me b/c I love goals. But if I had to narrow it down I think for me it would be this one:

Have coffee with someone smarter than me once per month.

I think by doing that it accomplishes more than just one thing. I grow smarter, I build relationships and learn intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, etc. depending on who they are.
